Our Impact

At Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Action Aid (PESAID), we are committed to transforming lives and building resilient communities across Kenya. Our impact is measured not just in numbers, but in the stories of hope, empowerment, and sustainable change we help create every day.

International Day of People with Disabilities

International Day of People with Disabilities

On December 3rd, 2024, PESAID joined Kilifi County and local nonprofits at Kwa Dadu Kijego—once a site of tragedy, now a symbol of hope. Over 2,500 people pledged to end harmful practices against people with disabilities. PESAID donated a wheelchair to Kalume Tumaini, and a statue was unveiled with the words “Never to happen again.” We continue to champion inclusion and dignity for all.

Tsunza Elderly Beneficiaries

Supporting the Elderly Beyond Conservation: PESAID’s Holistic Approach in Tsunza

While our collaboration with the Africa Climate and Environment Foundation (ACEF), Youth Pawa, and other partners to plant 1,500 mangroves in Tsunza is a major milestone, we at PESAID understand that supporting vulnerable communities requires a more holistic approach.

In addition to our environmental efforts, PESAID hosted a session with the elderly members of the Tsunza Fishpond Group, focusing on their psychosocial development.

These elderly individuals face a myriad of challenges as they age, from isolation to physical and emotional hardships.

During our session, they openly shared these struggles, seeking support not only for their livelihoods but also for their mental and emotional well-being.

By providing a platform for these individuals to express their concerns, we aim to strengthen both their psychosocial development and their ability to continue contributing to vital conservation efforts.

At PESAID, we believe in empowering people across all aspects of life physical, emotional, and economic.

We call on partners to join us in supporting these remarkable individuals, ensuring their well-being and promoting sustainable development.

Elderly Support at Kaya Godoma

Elderly Support at Kaya Godoma

PESAID and partners visited elders in Kaya Godoma, Kilifi, delivering relief and psychosocial support. Despite facing eviction and neglect, these elders show strength and dignity. We are committed to ending abuse and supporting their rights.

Shelter and Dignity for the Elderly

Chased from Their Homes, Forgotten by Their Families,But Still Holding On. The Silent Cry from Kaya Godoma

Imagine being chased away from your home by your own family. Accused of witchcraft, left with nothing, and forced to seek safety in a place with no roof, no food, and no certainty. This is the heartbreaking reality for the elderly at Kaya Godoma in Kilifi County.

PESAID, alongside Madam Consolata Machuko from the National Department of Social Development Services, visited Kaya Godoma once more. We delivered relief food from the County Commissioner’s office and offered psychosocial support. Most importantly, we reminded them that they are not forgotten.

These elders now face another crisis. The land they shelter on is not theirs. They are being asked to raise funds or face eviction again. Still, they remain strong. They grow okra, care for the land, and protect their dignity.

PESAID, as part of the Kilifi County Steering Committee on Older Persons, is committed to ending abuse and neglect of the elderly. Kaya Godoma must be a step toward healing, not a final place of exile.

These are not just stories. They are lives. And we will not rest until every elderly person is safe, seen, and supported.

Post-COP29 Analysis

Post-COP29 Analysis: Advancing Inclusive Climate Finance

Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Action Aid (PESAID) recently participated in a Post-COP29 analysis session in Nairobi, organized by Hivos, African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC), and Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). The event focused on the key outcomes of COP29 and how they relate to Kenya’s ongoing climate challenges, which directly affect our mission at PESAID.

One of the most significant developments from COP29 was the increase in climate adaptation finance, with developed nations committing to $300 billion annually by 2030. While this represents a positive step forward, it is still below the $1.3 trillion initially demanded by developing countries. This funding is critical for nations like Kenya, which face serious climate impacts such as extreme droughts, flooding, and the loss of biodiversity.

At PESAID, we are committed to ensuring that these climate funds reach vulnerable populations, especially people with disabilities, marginalized groups, and the elderly, who are often the most affected by climate change. As we continue to work towards a more resilient and sustainable future, we will advocate for inclusive and effective climate action that addresses the needs of these communities.

Let’s stay focused on driving positive change and holding global leaders accountable to their climate commitments.

Stories of Change

Mangrove Restoration and Livelihood Empowerment in Tsunza
PESAID in a collaborative effort joined the Africa Climate and Environment Foundation (ACEF), Youth Pawa, and other partners like the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), we recently planted 1,500 mangroves with the inspiring Tsunza Fishpond Group.

This group consists of over 20 elderly individuals who have come together to overcome the many challenges faced by older persons in their community.

Their resilience is evident in their fish farming project, where they have dug ponds with their own hands and now rear over 3,000 fish as a means of earning a livelihood.

To further support their conservation efforts, young climate actors purchased mangrove seedlings from the group, helping promote their important work.

However, the Tsunza Fishpond Group still faces gaps in their conservation journey, particularly in areas like fish feeding, planting more mangroves, and expanding into beekeeping.

Located adjacent to the newly constructed Dongo Kundu Highway, their project is strategically positioned to attract economic opportunities and further uplift their community.

At PESAID, we believe in the power of grassroots initiatives like this, and we call on potential donors and partners to support these incredible individuals in their mission to protect the environment and secure their livelihoods.
