Over the past year, PESAID has taken a leading role in supporting the development of a county wide survey on the situation of older people in Kilifi County. This work was carried out as part of the Kilifi County Elderly Persons Steering Committee, a multi sectoral platform bringing together government, civil society, faith based institutions, and community actors.

The purpose of the survey was to generate credible data that would establish a baseline on abuse, neglect, and the overall wellbeing of older people. This baseline will guide future interventions, strengthen coordination among duty bearers, and support evidence based advocacy and planning. It also helps ensure that cases of abuse are followed up through the right systems, including social services, law enforcement, and the justice sector.

The findings confirm that many older people in Kilifi continue to face serious challenges, including violence, neglect, displacement, and limited access to justice and health services. Despite existing constitutional and policy protections, gaps in coordination, data, and awareness continue to leave many older people unprotected.

PESAid remains committed to working with county and national institutions, civil society partners, and communities to translate this evidence into action. Older people deserve dignity, protection, and recognition as valued members of society.

Nothing for older people without older people.

Spending time with the Community Health Workers youths at Mtwapa Sub-County Hospital, together with the Plant Based Treaty and ELAFA, reminded us just how powerful honest conversations can be. Talking about food, health, and the systems that shape our choices felt easy and real, especially because the youths already get it.

Their knowledge, their questions, and their desire to change the narrative around food, especially by embracing plant-based options was genuinely uplifting. It gave us hope.

Moments like this make the work feel personal, and they remind us that the future of healthier food systems is already taking shape, led by young people.

At PESAID, we continue to push the drive for a healthy living, healthy environment through Plant Based Treaty.

PESAID team led by Treeza Auma and Faith Ongiri had a productive conversation with @Monika Nedic from the @Mohanji Foundation Spain, exploring shared values and opportunities for collaboration in community wellbeing and social impact.

During the discussion, we exchanged insights on compassion-driven service, inclusive development, and strengthening support systems for vulnerable groups.

We also highlighted PESAID’s ongoing work in Kenya including our efforts in elderly care, disability inclusion, youth empowerment, climate action, and community health.

Both organizations share a strong commitment to humanity, dignity, and sustainable community transformation.

We look forward to continued dialogue and exploring areas where joint initiatives can create deeper impact.

Redefining Justice Now means:

Ending the use of vague and stigmatizing terms like “unsound mind.”

Moving away from institutional-based care that isolates and limits.

Building inclusive, community-based support systems grounded in dignity, autonomy, and lived experience.

Because our principle is not negotiable:
Nothing about us without us.

If we are serious about equality, then we must listen.
If we are serious about inclusion, then we must reform.
If we are serious about justice, then we must act, now.

Today marks a meaningful milestone the World Second Summit for Social Development and the First Leaders’ Meeting of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.

At PESAID, we believe that hunger is not just a lack of food; it is a failure of global cognition. Our collective responsibility is to turn awareness into cognitive action to think, plan, and act differently.

PESAID’s Impact Shines on Day 2 of Mombasa ASK International Show 2025

On September 4, 2025, PESAID continued to make waves at the Mombasa ASK International Show in Mkomani, Nyali, running through September 7.

Under the theme Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth, Day 2 showcased our mission to empower Kenya’s youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and the elderly through inclusive, sustainable programs.

From skill-building to advocacy, we’re building stronger communities and the response has been incredible!

Our stand buzzed with energy as we connected with political leaders, schools, faith-based groups, and the public.

A highlight was the enthusiasm from schools, with students already aware of the links between diet, health, and climate ready to champion change! In collaboration with the Plant Based Treaty (PBT), we’re campaigning to center food systems in climate action, promoting plant-based diets and climate-smart agriculture.

An hour-long meeting with two local ministers was a game-changer they endorsed PBT, and we gifted them t-shirts as a symbol of their commitment to this journey.

Even a brief “hi” from the president his Excllency Dr William Ruto added to the day’s excitement!

We’re thrilled about new strategies emerging, including an upcoming social media debate with PBT’s Global North teams to spark global conversations.

On September 3, 2025, PESAID proudly joined the official opening of the Mombasa ASK International Show 2025 in Mkomani, Nyali, marking our first-ever participation in this vibrant event running until September 7.

Themed Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth, the show provided a powerful platform to showcase PESAID’s mission of uplifting communities—empowering the elderly, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) through sustainable, inclusive programs.

At our stand, we shared how PESAID’s initiatives, from trauma-aware support to skill-building workshops, are transforming lives across Kenya. We connected with farmers, youth, and local leaders, sparking conversations about building resilient communities through education and economic empowerment.

Our work resonated strongly, reflecting the heart of our vision: creating opportunities for all, especially the most vulnerable.

In partnership with the Plant Based Treaty (PBT), we championed a global campaign to put food systems at the core of climate action.

By promoting plant-based diets and climate-smart agriculture, we highlighted practical solutions for a healthier planet and stronger communities.

The enthusiasm from attendees, farmers eager for sustainable practices, youth inspired by innovation, and partners ready to collaborate, showed the growing momentum for these ideas.

PESAID joined Food Transition Day hosted by Plant Based Treaty at the Bonn J Marriott Hotel. As a civil society delegate, we took part in discussions on transforming food systems for climate action, public health, and food security. We connected with organizers, partners, and policymakers, and contributed to roundtable conversations on practical plant based solutions.
The program featured talks and reflections from campaigners and researchers, including sessions captured on video after the event. We appreciate the space created for civil society voices and look forward to continued collaboration that places food and agriculture at the heart of climate solutions.

PESAID joined the recent roundtable on transforming global food systems as a vital climate solution.

While discussions often focus on energy, the reality is stark: emissions from industrial food systems, especially animal agriculture, alone threaten our global climate goals. This crisis demands urgent, inclusive action.

For communities we work with, Persons with Disabilities and Older Persons in Kenya, the impacts of climate change are not abstract. Drought, food insecurity, and poor nutrition hit hardest where resilience is already stretched.

We must ensure that climate-smart, predominantly plant-based food systems not only protect our environment but prioritize equity, access, and dignity for all, especially those too often left out of the conversation.

Food systems transformation is a justice issue. It’s about survival, sovereignty, and sustainable futures, for everyone.
